The course introduces a student to the basics of Portuguese literature from the 19th and 20 century to modern literary trends: chronology, authors ,work.

Romance: pre-romance and romance, poetry, short stories, drama.
(Almeida Garrett, Alexandre Herculano, Joao de Deus, Camilo Castelo Branco, Julio Dinisi).
Realism and naturalism: definitions;
Generation 1870 - Antero de Quental, Oliveira Martins, Eco de Queirós.
Literature at the turn of the century, literary generation at the beginning of the century. 20th century Portuguese literature:
Portugal between 1900 and 1940;
modernism - Fernando Pessoa and Orpheu;
Presença and postpessoa period;
Prose, poetry, theater, literature after 1975 - post-modernism, tendencies in prose, poetry and drama
