The first part of the course is about the basic techniques and technologies for creation of graphics, paintings and sculptures together with their structure. Students become familiar with techniques of various art genres and subgenres, materials, use of tools, devices and appliances that are crucial in creation of fine arts. This is the first course where students get involved in tactile learning about fine arts along with tools, equipment and materials, which are particularly important from the historical point in acquiring fundamental knowledge and skills that are essential in exploring fine arts.
The second part of the course is aimed at presenting conservation - restoration profession as an important part of cultural heritage preservation activities. Students become familiar with the main elements that endanger artworks. They learn advanced restoration methods and procedures, which are essential for a better understanding of protection, preventive protection, conservation and restoration of art works. They also become familiar with copistics and presentation of works of art.
By visiting various (in situ) places where artworks are stored students get insight into the state of the selected artworks and with the results of conservation - restoration interventions. This is important for integration of art historians with conservation and restoration activities for improved protection of cultural heritage and scientific research in this area.
