A student is supposed to choose a seminar with one of the basic disciplinary areas which are defined by the departmental chairs. All students and teachers participate in the MA seminar. It is organised in three parts. In the first part, a student presents his or her research plans (disposition) and discusses research strategies and the reading list with other colleagues and teachers. In seminar, other teachers may be invited. At the end of individual research – but before the beginning of writing of the thesis – a student presents preliminary results of his or her work. If approved, he or she is allowed to accomplish his or her master thesis and defend it in the third and final part of the seminar in front of all participants of the seminar. At the end of the seminar a student should offer his or her experience to students of the first year study in the frame of specific tutorial scheme. With this activity, he or she assists in decisions of selecting the research topic, area and an advisor for his or her master thesis.

In the first part of the seminar the students are supposed to make a list of literature from the area of preparing their master thesis. The advisors recommend additional reading for each student individually.
