Students may choose between Master's seminar in linguistics or literary studies.
LINGUISTIC SEMINAR: Lecturer presents the development of the linguistics of a particular nation, its methodological approaches, s/he emphasizes its relationship to the concurrent methods in the general context of linguistic approaches.
At the beginning of the academic year presents themes for MA theses in the current year, highlights the possible methodological approaches, sets terms and required literature for all participants. Topics may be associated with themes addressed in previous courses, with emphasis on the contrastive topics, translation, stylistics, phraseology, but it can also deal with more recent approaches in linguistics (sociolinguistics, pragmatics, cognitivism, etc.).
LITERARY SEMINAR: Lecturer presents developmental stages of each national literary science and their methodological approaches, s/he emphasizes its relationship to the concurrent methods in the general context of literary studies. Lecturer also presents topics of seminar work in the current year, which are associated with the selected methodological starting points and literary phenomena.
Students choose the topics and prepare papers in the form of fragments (methodological starting point, selected bibliography). Later on they present the entire thesis. Each phase of students' work is assessed. The majority of the course is devoted to presentations of students' work and discussions.
Master's thesis are assessed after their public presentation.
At the beginning of each academic year lecturers announce themes for the Master's Thesis and lists of required and recommended literature.
